US Airways passengers in Phoenix can now go paperless when boarding many flights.
The Tempe-based airline today became the latest airline to offer the option of electronic boarding passes at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Delta, Continental, American, United and Alaska already offer mobile boarding passes in Phoenix, but their passenger counts are tiny compared with US Airways'. US Airways has a major hub here, with nearly 270 daily flights.
US Airways passengers on eligible U.S. flights will be given the option of a mobile boarding pass when they check in online. The pass will then be sent to their smartphones via e-mail or text. The mobile pass for connecting flights will be sent separately.
At the airport, the electronic boarding pass, which features encrypted bar codes, will be scanned at the security checkpoint and at the gate during boarding.
