“We are reviewing our purchase plan of A380s and A350s. With our airline joining the Oneworld Alliance, we do not need these ultra long-haul aircraft any more. However, we have not started any negotiations with Airbus now,” said Kingfisher Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Aggarwal.

AI understated losses by Rs 3,000 cr

New Delhi: In what could have serious financial implications for battered national carrier Air India, a supplementary audit conducted by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has revealed that AI may have understated its losses for fiscal 2010 by Rs 3038.1 crore. That could mean that the losses were under-reported by over 50%. AI had claimed to have cut down its net loss to Rs 5,551 crore in 2010 from Rs 7,189 crore the previous year.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reported 2010 demand statistics for international scheduled air traffic that showed an 8.2 per cent increase in the passenger business and a 20.6 per cent increase in freight.

Kingfisher to add to fleet by Oct; sees FDI rule ease

Kingfisher Airlines, plans to add eight leased aircraft to its fleet by October this year to expand capacity in the wake of growing air traffic, the firm said in an investor presentation made earlier in January.
Of the eight aircraft, six will be narrow-body Airbus A320 models and two will be the wide body Airbus A330s, the presentation said.

Strong 2010 but Uncertainties in 2011

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported full-year 2010 demand statistics for international scheduled air traffic that showed an 8.2% increase in the passenger business and a 20.6% increase in freight. Demand growth outstripped capacity increases of 4.4% for passenger and 8.9% for cargo. Average passenger load factor for the year was 78.4% which is a 2.7 percentage point improvement on 2009. The freight load factor saw a 5.2 percentage point improvement to 53.8%.
